Ellu Saadam / Sesame Seed Rice famous for Puratassi Saturday – Every Saturday of the Tamil Month Puratassi . One of my favorite Rice with rich taste.
Ingredients:
- Black Sesame seed – 2 tbsp
- Whole Urad Dal – 1.30 tbsp
- Red chilies – 3 nos / to taste
- Curry leaves – 1 sprig
- Asafoetida – ¼ tsp
- Whole tamarind – very small size ball (optional)
- Cooked Rice – 2 cups
For seasoning
- Gingely oil – 3 tbsp
- Mustard seeds – ¼ tsp
- Curry leaves – few
- Asafoetida – 2 pinches
Serves – 4 persons
Preparation Time – 15 min
Preparation:
- To take out the impurities of sesame seed Wash and dry the sesame seeds for 15 minutes. (If you r in a hurry you can pat dry using kitchen towel).
- Heat few drops of oil in the Kadai, add the Urad dal, Red chilies, Curry leaves and Asafoetida. Fry until Dal gets golden color. Take it out.
- Add the sesame seeds fry until it splutters. Take it out.
- Add the whole tamarind piece and fry for a minute and take it out and let all the fried items to cool down.
- Grind it into the powder consistency. Sesame Seed Powder is ready.
- Spread 2 cups of cooked rice in a plate and let it cool.
- Heat Oil in the Kadai and add the Mustard seeds. When it splutters, add the Curry leaves and Asafoetida.
- Take it out and pour it in to the mixing bowl.
- Add the cooled down cooked rice and Sesame seed powder into the mixing bowl. Mix it well.
- Serve the rice with Kootu and Papad. Enjoy delicious Ellu Saadam / Sesame Seed Rice.
