A better way to eat Pavakkai and love it when everyone hates the bitter taste is to make it a fry.
SERVING SIZE – 4
INGREDIENTS:
- Pavakkai / Bitter Gourd – 3 nos
- Rice Flour – 3 tbsp
- Gram Flour – 1 tbsp
- Red Chili Powder – 2 tsp [or] to taste
- Asafoetida – 2 Pinches
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Tamarind Water (thick) – 2 tsp
- Salt – to taste
- Oil – for frying
PREPARATION:
- Wash and cut the Pavakkai/Bitter Gourd and remove the seeds. Cut in to pieces.
- Take a bowl add the Pavakkai/Bitter Gourd, rice flour, gram flour, red chili powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, salt and tamarind water. Mix it well.
- Heat the oil, add the Pavakkai/Bitter Gourd (add few slices at a time. You have to fry it in different batches) and make sure doesn’t stick with each other. Fry it in the medium flame until golden color. Once fried ,take it out and keep in the paper towel to drain the excess oil.
- Serve it as accompaniment for rice or eat as it as chips.
- You can store it in airtight container and use for 2 to 3 days.
