Thiruvathirai Kali (திருவாதிரை களி)

INGREDIENTS:

  • Raw Rice – 1 cup
  • Channa Dal – 2 tbsp
  • Grated Jaggery – 1 ½ cup (According to you taste your can adjust)
  • Grated coconut – 3 tbsp
  • Water – 3 cups
  • Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp
  • Ghee – 2 – 3 tbsp
  • Cashew nuts – 5 pieces

PREPARATION:

  • Dry roast the raw rice until golden color. And  grind it in the mixie to the rava consistency. (If needed  you can sieve the ground rice, optional)

  • Dry rost the channa dal until golden color. Coarsely grind it in the mixie.
  • Take a heavy bottom pan, boil the water and add the jaggery until it melts. Slowly add the  rice rava(ground rice) and Coarse channa dal, mix it well. Let it cook for 2 minutes in the medium flame.

  • Add the ghee , grated coconut ,cardamom powder and mix it well.
  • Transfer this kali in to a vessel (If the kali is very thick you can sprinkle some water and mix it well). And put it into the pressure cooker and cook it for  2 whistles.
  • Garnish it with fried cashew nuts.
  • Serve it hot with kootu.
